Incubator for Leaders of Color

The Rhode Island Expansion Arts Program wants to act as an incubator for intercultural leaders of color so that they can share their knowledge while inspiring others to become future leaders. By providing opportunities we are placing these leaders at the forefront of relevant conversations.

alumni consultants

For over 45 years, the Rhode Island Expansion Arts Program (RIEAP) has been nurturing culturally diverse organizations. Through the years, the RIEAP Alumni in these organizations have played an important role in strengthening their communities including cultural preservation, education and youth development within their leadership. The alumni continue their leadership role as culturally sensitive consultants. Having gone through the program, they can relay their experiences while mentoring the new cohort. The RIEAP provides professional development opportunities to all alumni, such as attending and presenting at national and regional conferences, lectures and convening’s.

Access to regional and national conferences

The Rhode Island Expansion Arts Program (RIEAP) has created a Leadership Pipeline that connects the RIEAP Cohort & Alumni to national and regional conferences. The Cohort & Alumni have received scholarships to attend conferences which include: The Youth Development Conference (Boston), National Humanities Conference (Boston), Grant Makers for the Arts (Miami), New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) Idea Swap and Creative Communities Exchange, and the Americans for the Arts Convention
(Philadelphia/Boston).

Through the years, RIEAP has brought several National Conferences to Providence, Rhode Island offering over $50,000 in scholarships. This included
the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC) Regional Arts Talk,
and The Association of American Cultures (TAAC). The alumni not only attend
these conferences they now present at regional and national conferences,
such as the National Humanities Conference and Creative Communities
Exchange (CCX). Through this program the RIEAP Alumni acquire best
practices, network regionally and nationally, and receive professional
development opportunities to present at the National Humanities Conference
and Creative Communities Exchange (CCX), where they are able to tell their
stories at a national forum. Whether it is bringing national conferences to RI,
presenting there, or providing scholarships to attend, the RIEAP strives
to expand access for our culturally diverse communities, while preserving
these folk-art traditions.
